A Tribute…To Husband and Daddy
Just a little tribute to Brian… husband and daddy. These are just a few of the things Brian has done since we’ve been home…
-
Going to the pharmacy the day we arrived home from the hospital to pick up my prescriptions only to get there, find out they were closed, and that he would have to travel to the next closest suburb of Nashville to get them. And THEN, upon his arrival was told they couldn’t transfer them.
- Running to Wal-Mart (and then through Wal-Mart) to get me medicine. (I seriously should have timed his speed. I think it might have been the fastest trip to Wal-Mart ever!)
- Trying for a burp but getting pooped on instead.
- Sitting with me and Kharis during feeding sessions that turn into hour and a half scream sessions.
- Diaper changes that require three diapers before he finally succeeds….and laughing through it the entire time. (Kharis is definitely getting the hang of cleansing her body.)
- Daddy time with Kharis.
- Constant prayers for me and Kharis.
- Being completely in love with this little girl.
- And SO much more.
Brian is an amazing husband (I already knew this, though. He always has been.) and father. I can’t wait for Kharis to get to experience more and more the love, patience, persistence, and support of her daddy.
You are incredible, Brian, and I love you!

Edible Fruit Bouquet
While we were in the hospital, Kharis’ Grandma and Grandpa Parrish, Aunt Kim, and Great-grandma Rader sent us an edible fruit bouquet. Here are a few pictures of it so everyone can see how pretty it was. I say “was” because it was even more tasty than pretty so we already gobbled it all up.
Sleepless in The Battle
Sorry I have not updated for a while but as you can imagine things have been a little busy. Getting acclimated to taking care of a baby has been interesting to say the least. The battle of getting Kharis fed has not been a one-sided one. Mom and dad have been victorious at points and Kharis has been victorious at others. This back and forth has caused some lack of sleep, especially for mommy. Last night was particularly rough.
In the hospital Kharis seemed to be doing good, but as the days have gone on and she has gotten more and more hungry she has had a little more trouble getting used to this whole thing. Last night was one of crying, more crying, and then crying some more. She finally started getting a little better and is actually eating right now as I type. I think she’s getting the hang of it. Good job little girl! She’s a Parrish so eating should definitely come pretty naturally.
Did you think I would end this post without some pictures? You can tell she’s a daddy’s girl…just as it should be.
We Are Home
Around 1:00 this afternoon we pulled into our driveway to show Kharis her new home. Even if she didn’t say anything and she was sleeping when we brought her inside, I know she loves her knew room.
I have to admit, this whole process has been a lot better than I thought it would be. Since Katie’s the one who gave birth and not me, I realize I don’t have the right to speak much on this issue, but our hospital experience and even the labor and delivery process was, for the most part, a good one. Even Katie said that it wasn’t that bad and she would definitely be willing to do this again. I’m sure she means, again in a couple of years. I hope that’s what she means.
Here’s a video of Kharis being very very cute. You can tell I was tired when I was taking this video because I get a little mixed up on my words. (Don’t worry. She has a Grandma Barb and a Grandpa Ron, not two grandpas on that side of the family.)
doneCan’t Get Enough
I just can’t get enough of this little girl.
Some More Pics of Lovely Kharis
Katie got a little sleep last night. We finally got to bed around 12:30. The nurses brought Kharis to our room at 2:00 for a feeding. At 4:00 they took her back to the nursery and then brought her back at 6:00 for another feeding. I guess we better get used to those kind of nights :).
Here are some pictures of her after the nurses gave her her first bath.
Worth All the Work and Wait
Kharis Grace Parrish entered the world today at 4:50 PM. She weighed in at 7 lbs, 13 oz. and is 20 inches long. Baby and mother are both healthy but very tired. Thank the Lord of grace and mercy for His infinite goodness in the protection of Kharis and Katie and for blessing us with this beautiful little baby girl. The first moment I held my little girl in my arms and looked at her beautiful face, I understood, more than I ever have before, why our loving heavenly Father would go to such great lengths through the giving up of His own son to reconcile us to Himself. The love of a parent for a child is truly like nothing else. Thank you, Father, that you love us, your children, infinitely more than I could ever love my daughter, and I love her a lot.
Thank you to everyone for all your prayers.
Here are some pictures of our little girl. Isn’t she cute?!
2:00 PM and All is Well
Well, as “prophesied” in the last post, Katie’s contractions did get worse. Coming into this whole thing Katie wanted to attempt to do this naturally without any drugs, but as the contractions got worse and after the doctor told her it would make everything go faster and smoother she decided to get the epidural. I am glad she did because she is feeling so much better and this whole experience will be a lot more enjoyable for her.
We are still on schedule to have a baby sometime this afternoon. The nurses are actually in the room right now and they are very optimistic about how Katie is doing and how far along she is in the delivery process. They said it could even be within a couple of hours that this baby comes. YEA!!!!! Thank you to everyone who has been and continues to pray for us through this whole thing. We are greatly appreciative.
Here is a picture of Katie with all the cords, tubes, and machines attached to her. She looks like she’s in the Matrix.

Is that an epidural or is she taking the blue pill?

On Monday, May 26, 2008, we took a home pregnancy test and found out that we were great with child (before that we were just plain great). Who knew that peeing on a stick could bring such joy? We even took a picture of the stick but we’ll spare everyone that image.
