Workin' On A Full House

Benaiah Wayne

“How did you find that name?”…

“Then Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done mighty deeds, killed the two sons of Ariel of Moab.  He also went down and killed a lion in the middle of a pit on a snowy day.  He killed an Egyptian, an impressive man.  Now the Egyptian had a spear in his hand, but he went down to him with a club and snatched the spear from the Egyptian’s hand and killed him with his own spear.  These things Benaiah the son of Jehoiada did, and had a name as well as the three mighty men.  He was honored among the thirty, but he did not attain to the three. And David appointed him over his guard.”  2 Samuel 23:20-23

It means “God has built” or “built by Jehovah.”  Pronounced ben-NAY-ah.  We will pronounce it ben-EYE-ah.  Benaiah was a loyal servant of David, not included in his three mighty men, but honored and dignified above the thirty.  Benaiah was willing to sacrifice and put himself in harm’s way on several occasions as a result of his loyalty and service to David.  The name serves as a reminder of how we should all diligently seek ways to serve our King… regardless of the cost…regardless of suffering.

Before Kharis was even thought of Brian determined this would be the name of our firstborn son.  I mean, who wouldn’t want to be named after a guy who killed a lion?  Wayne is the middle name of Brian’s dad.

So there you have it!  Benaiah Wayne should be with us shortly.  We’re so excited to meet him!
